The Argyle High School Band Program

The Argyle Wind Ensemble – 2013

Once in high school, students are combined in the fall for the 120-plus member marching band. Argyle High School is the 2008, 2010 & 2012 3A State Marching Band Champion, a 2006 3A State Marching Band Finalist and the 2003 and 2005 2A State Marching Band Champion.  The marching band performs at all regular season and play-off football games, marches in the homecoming parade, and performs at all pep rallies and team send-offs.  In addition, the marching band is competitive in the UIL Marching Contest, the Birdville Marching Festival, the Classic Festival on the Lake, Plano Marching Festival, and the Plano Drum Line Festival.

In the spring, the marching band is divided into two ability based concert bands.  The concert band program in Argyle has enjoyed a rich tradition of excellence. In its brief history the high school band, in addition to its marching band successes, was selected as the 2009 3A Texas State Honor Band,  2007 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic performer, 2005 2A Texas State Honor Band , The Association of Texas Small School Bands Outstanding Performance Series Winner, recipient of the Outstanding Band Program Award given by the Texas Chapter of the American School Band Director’s Association, consistently earn Superior Ratings at the Texas University Interscholastic League Concert and Sight-reading Contest, and Best in Class awards at various festivals throughout Texas and Florida.  The Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band perform a Winter Concert, a Spring Concert, a reach-out concert at a nearby retirement community in addition to the various contests and festivals they attend.  The Argyle High School band students have set and hold the record for the most number of All-State students in the Association for Texas Small School Bands All-State Band.  In the spring semester, high school band students participate in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest, UIL Concert and Sight-reading contest, Choice Music Festivals, and perform a Spring Concert.

The Argyle Band program is fortunate to have a very active Band Booster organization which serves a vital role in the instrumental music program.  This strong music program is a joint effort between parents, students, administrators, community, and teachers.
